Apps Tie for 10th at Wofford Intercollegiate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Appalachian State University men's golf played the final round of the Coca-Cola Wofford Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Spartanburg on Tuesday. The Mountaineers moved three spots up the leader board and tied for 10th place after shooting their tournament-low of 291 for a total of 876.

Gardner-Webb took home the team title with a score of 847 followed by host Wofford at 852 and Army at 855.

Patrick Moriarty shot two-under 70 for the second time of the tournament. Moriarty finished with a total of 211 and tied for sixth place. Caleb Keck was right behind Moriarty at 214 after carding one-over 73 on Tuesday, Keck tied for 15th place. 

Alex Burris shot his lowest round of the tournament in round three with a 75. Burris tied for 64th place with a total of 225. One stroke behind Burris was Jake Smith with a total of 226. Smith shot 75 in round three and tied for 67th.

Thomas Hodges finished in 85th place after shooting 81 in the final round. Hodges had a total of 238.

The Mountaineers shot 290 in round one followed by 295 in round two for a total of 585 and sat in a tie for 13th place after day one. 

Gardner Webb led the tournament with a team score of 564 followed by USC Upstate and Wofford at 566. 

Keck and Moriarty were both tied for 11th after day one with totals of 141. Keck fired the lowest round of any Mountaineer with his three-under 69 in round one. Keck followed up with a even-par 72 in round two. Moriarty carded two under-par rounds with a two-under 70 followed by a one-under 71.

Smith carded a total of 151 on Monday with rounds of 75 and 76. Smith was tied for 63rd going into the final round. One stroke behind Smith with a 152 was Burris. Burris shot back-to-back rounds of 76 and was in a tie for 68th place. 

Rounding out the Mountaineers lineup, Hodges was in 84th place with a total of 157 after rounds of 79 and 78. 

The Mountaineers' next tournament is the Sun Belt Championship in Sandestin, Fl. on April 24.
