Women's Tennis Hosts Gardner-Webb
BOONE, N.C. -  Appalachian State University women's tennis (4-10, 0-2 SBC) returns to action on its home court on Wednesday with a 2 p.m. match against Gardner-Webb (6-10) at Varsity Courts.

The Mountaineers were last in action last week against Troy and No. 47 Georgia State, where they fell in both matches on the road in Troy, Ala. Clare Cox and Heidi Swope led Appalachian in both matches, winning singles matches against Troy and a doubles triumph against the Panthers.

Despite a losing record, the Apps are 3-2 on their home court this season and will look to snap a four-match skid.

Melissa Machado and Gabrielle Wreder lead the Mountaineers with five singles wins while Cox and Swope are right behind with four victories apiece.

In doubles play, Taylor Bygrave still leads the way with three wins on two different doubles pairings. Bygrave is 3-2 with Mackenzie LaSure and Megan Mullen.

Gardner-Webb has won two out of its last three matches while most recently defeating Radford, 5-2. The Runnin' Bulldogs are 2-5 on the road this season and is 1-3 in their past four road contests.

Sandra Bolstad and Catherine White both lead the visitors with eight wins in singles play. Rokia Sacko is second on the team with seven wins as the No. 1 in the lineup. Overall, Gardner-Webb is 39-56 in singles competition this season.

The Runnin' Bulldogs are 23-24 in doubles action with White and Sarah Rieckmann notching an 11-4 mark as the No. 3 pairing in the lineup. Sacko and Mary Walker Mixon are second at an even 8-8 record.

In the previous meeting, the Apps fell to Gardner-Webb, 4-3, in a toughly-contested contest. The Black and Gold came back to tie the match, 3-3, but fell in the final singles match.
