South Alabama Completes Sweep Over App State

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University softball was no-hit by two-time and defending Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week, Devin Brown, on Saturday as South Alabama won 6-0 to take the three-game sweep in Boone.

The Mountaineers fell to 7-27 overall and 1-8 in league play while the Jaguars improved to 18-10 on the spring including 6-2 in the SBC. Brown (10-6) tossed her second no-no in five games after throwing a five-inning perfect game against ULM on Sunday.

In two starts against App State this weekend, the sophomore didn't allow a run, struck out 27 batters and walked five in 14 innings of work. Those two efforts lowered her season's ERA to 1.59 and put her strikeout-to-walk ratio at 176-49. She hasn't given up a run in her last 30 and two-thirds innings.

The lone batter to reach for the Black and Gold in game three of the series was Ally Walters with a leadoff walk to open the home half of the third frame. Walters moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Maddy Bloom, but was stranded there.

In the circle for the home team, Annaleise Kennedy (2-9) got the start and went three innings with two runs, one earned, given up on eight hits, one free pass and one punchout. In relief, Claire Eosso and Vanessa Ciocatto were each responsible for two innings.

Next up, Appalachian will hit the road for the first time in 24 days with a trip to UT Arlington. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. ET with game three on Sunday set to begin at 1 p.m. ET at the Mavericks' Allan Saxe Field.
