Softball Finishes the Kickin' Chicken Classic

CONWAY, S.C. - Appalachian State University softball concluded its play in Coastal Carolina's Kickin' Chicken Classic on Sunday afternoon with an 11-6 loss to Seton Hall inside CCU Softball Stadium.

The Mountaineers fell to 0-10 on the season while the Pirates improved to 8-2. On the day, Cara Parker went 2-for-3 with two RBI and had her first multi-hit game since the second contest of the spring against Butler. Freshman Megan Walker also had a pair of base knocks for the first time in her career as she went 2-of-4 with a run scored and a triple.

Seton Hall scored all 11 of its runs in the first four innings with one in the first, two in the second, five in the third, and three in the fourth. The Black and Gold's six runs were all part of a big bottom of the third in which the Apps chalked up four hits and batted around the order.

For App State in the bottom of the third, Natalie Orcutt singled in Walker after her leadoff triple and after a hit by pitch and a walk, Maddy Bloom forced in a run when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The next four runs scored when Pepper Butler singled in a run, Parker brought in two with a double to left center and Heather Josey pushed across Butler with a sacrifice fly to right.

Annaleise Kennedy (0-1) made her first career start in the circle and went two innings while giving up five earned runs on six hits. In relief, Katherine Johnson threw two innings and Vanessa Ciocatto accounted for the final three.

Next up, Appalachian State travels to Rock Hill, S.C. for the Winthrop/Adidas Tournament on Feb. 26-28.
