BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University wrestling took the stage for the final time before the regular season begins, hosting its annual Black & Gold match where it split into two teams and squared off to finish the preseason.

The Gold team won the last three matches – the very last by pin – to defeat the Black team 27-10

In the 141-pound match, Irvin Enriquez won by major decision over Brandon Harris in the opening match of the night gave the Black team the early 4-0 lead.

Matt Zovistoski won a 13-6 decision over Miller Clark to bring Gold within one point. With the 4-3 lead, Gavin Landoff edged out Angel Najar 3-2 to extends Black's lead to 7-3.

The 165-pound match saw Forrest Przybysz win an 8-5 decision over Thomas Flitz to get Gold within one once more. Gold finally took the lead win Marcus Johnson won by technical fall over Colton Jackson 21-2 to go up 11-7. 

Gold began to pull away when David Peters-Logue won 4-2 over Taylor Jackson in the 184-match, but Randall Diabe took down Demazio Samuel 10-3, to make it 14-10.

Denzel Dejournette gave Gold the 18-10 lead by defeating Cary Miller 12-4 in the heavyweight before Logan Durham won a super close 8-7 match against Vito Pasone in the 125-pound.

Colby Smith sealed the win for the Gold team when he pinned Thyree Washington in 1:56 in the 133-pound and final match of the night.

The Mountaineers will now head into the regular season as they travel to the Hokie Open on Sunday, Nov. 6 in Blacksburg, Va.
