BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University wrestling further solidified its No. 23 ranking in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll as they prepare for their second nationally ranked ACC opponent, NC State, on Wednesday night in Raleigh – the opening event at the Wolfpack's newly renovated Reynolds Coliseum.
The Mountaineers (3-0) also remained steadfast with their No. 21 ranking on InterMat after they downed their second Top 25, Power 5 program of the season in then-No. 25 North Carolina on Sunday, the most in program history since year-by-year results were first recorded in 1990-91.
The Wolfpack (2-0) stand in the way of the Black and Gold making it three Top 25, Power 5 programs, having won 25 of its last 26 duals dating back to the beginning of last season. However, with a host of new faces, Appalachian should wrestle NC State close as they historically do.
The undefeated showdown will feature 12 nationally ranked wrestlers between the two teams with NC State having two at the 133-pound weight class.Â
Appalachian State features No. 11 sophomore Matt Zovistoski in the 149-pound class; No. 18 junior Forrest Przybysz at the 165-pound division; junior 174-pounder Nick Kee at No. 15; and senior heavyweight Denzel Dejournette at No. 9 in the country.
The Wolfpack will feature No. 18 Sean Fausz at 133, No. 7 Kevin Jack at 141, No. 4 Max Rohskopf at 157 and No. 17 Michael Macchiavello at 184.
The Mountaineers will also feature freshman Gavin Londoff and junior David Peters-Logue at the 157- and 184-pound weight classes, respective. Both wrestlers have taken down ranked opponents this season in Peters-Logue's pin of Oregon State's then-No. 12 Corey Griego and Londoff's 5-2 decision against North Carolina's then-No. 16 Joey Moon.
The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. Fans traveling will be able to buy tickets at the door for $7/adults and $5/youth. The match will also be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and have live stats on TrackWrestling.com for free.
