Powers and Brunson Compete in Tobacco Road Multis

Chapel Hill, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's track and field sent a pair of student-athletes to North Carolina's Tobacco Road Multis on Thursday and Friday to compete in the heptathlon. Jackson Powers placed seventh and Benjamin Brunson was right behind him in eighth.

The junior, Powers, registered a score of 2,270 while Brunson finished his first collegiate heptathlon with 2,079 points. Neither of them competed in the final three events, which included the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000. The field was made up of 11 participants, three of which did not finish.

In his third-career heptathlon, Powers ran the 60 in 7.60, long jumped 17-8, threw the shot 38-9, and high jumped 5-7. Brunson finished his first meet as a Mountaineer with marks of 7.96 in the 60, 18-7 in the long jump, 31-2 in the shot put, and 5-7 in the high jump.

Next up for both the men and women's teams is the Mountaineer Open in Boone on Jan. 29-30.
