Former Mountaineers in the NFL: 2015 Season Review

With the Houston Texans' elimination from the National Football League playoffs on Saturday, the seasons of seven former Appalachian State University student-athletes in the NFL have come to a close. Here is a look at how the former Mountaineers fared in the NFL in 2015.

Detroit Lions third-year punter Sam Martin played in all sixteen games in 2015, handling the punting and kickoff duties. Martin punted 80 times for 3,679 yards, both career-high numbers. Martin downed 25 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line. Martin kicked off 73 times with 40 touchbacks. In Martin's best game of the season vs. the Philadelphia Eagles, he tallied a career high eight touchbacks on eight kickoffs and averaged 46 yards per punt. For his performance, Martin was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Fourth-year running back Travaris Cadet started the season as a member of the New England Patriots where he played in one game and caught one pass for two yards. Prior to week 11, the San Francisco 49ers signed Cadet to a one-year deal after being released by New England. In three games with San Francisco, Cadet rushed for 16 yards and recorded 34 receiving yards. After being released from the 49ers, Cadet's former team, the New Orleans Saints, signed him. In his first game back, Cadet scored on a career-long 44-yard touchdown reception. Cadet followed that performance with 77 yards receiving on six receptions in a win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Houston Texans rookie offensive lineman Kendall Lamm made his NFL debut in week two in his hometown of Charlotte, N.C. against the Carolina Panthers. Lamm would play in 15 games during his rookie season and made four starts. On Dec. 6 against the Buffalo Bills, Lamm made his first career reception on a third and one that went for seven yards and a first down. Lamm was the only former Mountaineer to make a playoff appearance this season when Houston faced the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild-card round.

San Francisco 49ers fifth-year offensive lineman Daniel Kilgore started the season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, after suffering a serious leg injury in 2014, and remained there until week 12. Kilgore played in the final five games and started the final three games at center.

Jacksonville Jaguars third-year cornerback Demetrius McCray appeared in 14 games in 2015 and was a starter against Miami (week 2), New England (week 3) and Indianapolis (week 4). McCray recorded 25 tackles on the year and tallied one pass break up against the San Diego Chargers in week 12.

St. Louis Rams fourth-year wide receiver Brian Quick battled back from a season-ending shoulder injury suffered in week eight of 2014 to play in 13 games and make two starts - week 15 vs. Tampa Bay and week 16 vs. Seattle. Quick hauled in 10 catches for 102 receiving yards. Quick's longest reception of the season went for 37 yards in a week 10 game against the Chicago Bears.

After spending 2014 on the practice squad, Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Tony Washington appeared in four games and had one rush for eight yards. Washington's season was cut short by injury and he was placed on the injured reserve list on Oct. 20.
