NASHVILLE, Tenn. — After a two hour weather delay, Appalachian State University men's soccer outlasted Belmont on Friday night to earn a 1-0 overtime victory.

The Mountaineers (2-1-0) earned their second-straight win after defeating the Bruins (1-4-0) on Trey Hemphill's overtime winner. The Apps tallied 14 shots on the night compared to Belmont's four and controlled the game from the kickoff.

Despite plenty of shot attempts, App State was having trouble finding the scoring touch with just four of those 14 shots on goal.

After a scoreless regulation, the Mountaineers and the Bruins headed into extra time. Just three minutes into overtime, Hemphill launched a shot from straight on in front of goal and finished past the Bruin goalkeeper to end the game.

Paul West got the start for the Apps and played the entire game. West recorded three saves on the night.

"It was a solid performance from every player. We controlled the tempo from the kickoff and fully deserved to win tonight," said head coach Matt Nelson. "Our focus now shifts to Sunday as we continue this difficult stretch of games."

The Mountaineers are back in action on Sunday for their second game in Nashville, Tenn. The Apps will take on Lipscomb at 1:00 p.m.
