BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University softball will host former Southern Conference rival UNCG in a mid-week doubleheader on Wednesday, April 22. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.

LOOKING AT THE MOUNTAINEERS
• Appalachian State has seen some success this season when it comes to non-conference opponents.
• With an 11-9 overall record in out of conference matchups, the Mountaineers are hitting .295 and have hit 21 home runs and 18 doubles to outscore its opponents 115-104.
• As a team, the Mountaineers have posted a .465 slugging percentage and a .372 on-base percentage.
• Dani Heichen leads the way with a .429 average in non-conference action. Heichen is a perfect 4-for-4 on the basepaths and has scored 15 runs.
• With a .379 average and eight RBI, Tiffany Taynor is second in average for the Mountaineers in such games.
• Designated player Caroline Chambers has hit four home runs and driven in 11 runs with a .340 average.
• Leading in non-conference RBI is Heather Josey with 18. Josey has hit three home runs in the process. Pepper Butler is second with 14 RBI and leads the team with five homers.
• Vanessa Ciocatto has pitched to a 3.43 non-conference ERA and is 3-1 in 15 appearances. Ciocatto owns one complete games, which was a 9-0 shutout of Wagner at the Adidas Tournament in Rock Hill, S.C.
• Sarah Warnock also hit her fourth and fifth home runs of the season last week, setting a new career-high for the senior backstop. Warnock had hit three home runs each of the past two seasons.
• Dani Heichen finished last week with a .538 average at the plate to raise her batting average to a team-high .333.
• Pepper Butler enjoyed a great week at the plate, hitting .667 and scoring eight runs, hitting three home runs and driving in nine runs.
• The Mountaineers have hit 11 home runs over the last five games, including six in the doubleheader at Radford last Thursday.
• Appalachian has now hit 35 home runs this season - just one shy of tying the program record of 36.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
• UNCG enters the doubleheader with a 16-18 overall record, including a 2-9 mark within the Southern Conference.
• Appalachian State and UNCG have matched up 42 times and split those games evenly with both programs winning 21.
• Last year Appalachian State was swept by UNCG in a weekend series in Boone, including a wild 20-19 thriller in Game Two of a doubleheader.
• The Spartans are led at the plate by Allison Geiner who carries a .439 average in 66 at-bats.
• Nicole Thomas comes in with a .398 average and a team-leading eight home runs and 36 RBI.
• In total, the Spartans boast seven hitters with averages over .300, while hitting 25 home runs this season and a .318 collective batting average.
•Alicia Bazonksi has seen by far the most innings of any of the Spartan pitchers with 99.1 innings pitched. Bazonski is 7-8 in a team-high 23 appearances, including eight complete games.
