AURORA, Ohio — Appalachian State University men's golf played the final round of the Cleveland State University Invitational on Monday afternoon, shooting a 295 for a tournament total of 884. The Mountaineers finished in eighth place.
Kent State won the tournament at 17-under with a final round of 276. Oakland and Dayton rounded out the top three.
Patrick Moriarty was the only Mountaineer to finish under par with final of round of 2-under 70. Moriarty came in sixth place. Caleb Keck shot a 2-over 74 in the third round for a total of 221. Keck finished in a tie for 24th place.
Dillon Wilson and Alex Burris both finished at 11-over par after day two. Wilson shot his best round of the tournament in round three with a 1-over 73. Burris carded a 78 in the final round. Both Mountaineers tied for 47th place with a total of 227.
Rounding out the Mountaineer lineup, Chance Watson recorded an 80 in the third round, dropping him into a tie for 52nd place.
After Day one, the Mountaineers were tied with host Cleveland State for fifth place after rounds of 291 and 298.
The Apps were paced by Moriarty on day one. Moriarty was even par after rounds of 70 and 74. The Rockville, Md. native was tied for 10th place. Keck carded a first round 71 followed by a second round 76 for a day one total of 147. At 3-over par, Keck sat in a tie for 18th place.
Watson and Burris were both tied for 29th after shooting 149 over two rounds. Watson fired a first round 74 followed by a 75 on the second 18 holes. Burris shot 76 in his opening round and a 1-over 73 in round two.
Wilson shot a 154 over two rounds with a 78 in round one and 76 in round two. Wilson was in a tie for 52nd.
The Mountaineers are next in action on Monday when they host the Donald Ross Intercollegiate at Mimosa Hills Country Club in Morganton, N.C.
