BURLINGTON, N.C. — Appalachian State University men's golf carded a final round of 293, its best round of the tournament, for a total of 887. The Apps finished in seventh place.
East Carolina claimed first place at 19-under par. Charleston Southern was the runner-up followed by VCU in third.
Patrick Moriarty carded the lowest round of the tournament for any Mountaineer with his third round 68. Moriarty jumped into a tie for ninth place. Caleb Keck shot one-over 72 in his final round dropping him into a tie for 12th place.
Alex Burris fired a third round 75 on Tuesday. Burris finished the tournament in a tie for 54th place. Chance Watson recorded a third round 79 leaving him in a tie for 65th place.
Jake Smith rounded out the Mountaineer lineup with a final round 78. Smith tied for 69th place.
The Mountaineers shot a 298 in round one followed by a 296 in round two for a day one total of 594.
Keck lead the way for the Apps on day one with a 73 in round one and an even-par 71 in round two. Keck was tied for eighth place headed into the final round on Tuesday.
Moriarty was even through the first round with a 71 but shot 76 in round two to finish the day at five-over. Moriarty was tied for 23rd. Watson finished day one at 10-over par with scores of 77 and 75. Watson was tied for 50th place.
Smith and Burris both ended day one in a tie for 59rd place. Smith carded back-to-back rounds of 77 while Burris posted scores of 80 and 74. Both Mountaineers were 12-over par on the day.
Competing as an individual Zach Joines shot a 237 over three rounds and finished tied for 81st place.
Appalachian will compete at the Arkansas State Intercollegiate on Oct. 25-27 at Penninsula GC/ Gulf Shores, Al.
