MORGANTON, N.C. — Appalachian State University men's golf completed the final round of the Donald Ross Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon. The Mountaineers dropped into third place after shooting a 287 for at tournament total of 850.
Jacksonville claimed first place in with team score of 845. Gardner-Webb with 846 were the runners-up.
Patrick Moriarty ended the tournament in a tie for seventh place after a final round one-over 71 for a total of 210. Alex Burris was part of the final pairing of the day. Burris carded a 75 and finished tied for 10th.
Chance Watson and Dillon Wilson tied for 34th place with a total of 219. Watson posted a third round 76 while Wilson shot his tournament-low 2-under 68.
One Stroke behind Watson and Wilson was Caleb Keck with 220. Keck shot a 73 and finished tied for 39th place.
Jacksonville led the tournament after Day One shooting rounds of 272 and 288 for a total of 560.
The Mountaineers were led by freshman Burris who was the only player in the field to shoot two rounds under par with a 68 in round one and 69 in round two. Burris was in second place after day one.
Moriarty carded the lowest round of the day for any Mountaineer with a round one 67. Moriarty shot a 72 on the second 18 holes and was tied for fourth place. Watson recorded a first round 75 followed by a second round 68 for a total of 143. Watson was tied for 17th.
Keck was tied for 37th place after carding rounds of 74 and 73 on day one. Wilson rounded out the Mountaineer lineup with a total of 151 on the day. Wilson was tied for 56th.
Four Mountaineers competed as individuals in the Donald Ross Intercollegiate. Jake Smith shot 71 in the final round giving him a total of 214. Smith tied for 15th place. Kyle Austin finished his tournament with a 75 for a 218 and tied for 29th place.
Zach Joines finished two shots behind Austin with a total of 220 and tied for 39th place. Thomas Hodges carded a final round 76 for a 226 total. Hodges finished tied for 60th.
Appalachian is next in action at the Elon Invitational on Oct. 19-20.
