BOONE, N.C — Appalachian State University men's soccer will travel to Clinton, S.C. on Tuesday for a non-conference match against Presbyterian. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. This match was originally scheduled for Sept. 29 but was postponed because of poor field conditions.
The Mountaineers (5-5, 1-1 Sun Belt) have won their last two matches to get back to .500 on the year. The Apps edged UNC Asheville, 1-0, on Tuesday with Stephen Chapman's header in the 16th minute. The goal was Chapman's fourth of the year.
On Saturday, Appalachian picked up its first Sun Belt points of the season with a 2-0 win over Howard. Donovan Japp and Daniel Avila both scored their first goal of the year. Avila's goal was the first of his career.
Scouting the Blue Hose:
Presbyterian enters Tuesday's match with a 0-9-1 overall record and a 0-6 home mark. The Blue Hose have dropped two matches to Sun Belt schools this season, losing to Georgia State 5-1 and Georgia Southern 2-0.
Onyemachi Provost and Matt Trimby lead Presbyterian with one goal each. Johnny Archer has seen the majority of the time in net for the Blue Hose. Acher has made 45 saves on the year and has a 2.50 goals against average. Their opponents have outscored Presbyterian 28-3 so far this season.
The Mountaineers defeated the Blue Hose, 4-0, last season in the schools' first ever meeting.
