BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University wrestling had its five match winning streak stopped by the Duke Blue Devils Saturday night in Durham. The Mountaineers (7-7, 4-0 SoCon) fell 24-17 after late rally by the Blue Devils.

 The night started at the heavyweight Class, with Denzel Dejournette taking on Brendan Walsh. Dejournette won a 4-1 decision to give the Mountaineers an early 3-0 lead. Dominic Parisi kept the fast start going when earned an 11-3 major decision over Thayer Atkins.

Duke would answer with a major decision victory of its own when Mitch Finesilver defeated Vito Pasone 18-7. Finesilver's victory would cut the Appalachian lead to three points, 7-4. At 141, Michael Longo shut out Brandon Gambucci 10-0 to give The Mountaineers an 11-4 advantage.

In the 149 pound matchup, Javon Johnson gave up a major decision to Marcus Cain. With App State up 11-9, Zack Strickland won a decision over Immanuel Kerr-Brown for the second time in as many weeks. Nick Kee tried to distance the Mountaineers from Blue Devils with a decision win over Brian Dorsey that would put Appalachian up 17-9.

Duke would start to chip away at the Appalachian lead when Trey Adamson defeated Forrest Przybysz 10-7 at 174 pounds. In the next match Nick Vetell was pinned by Jacob Kasper to give Duke its first lead of the night 18-17.

It all came down to the 197 matchup between Tyler Radford and No. 7 Conner Hartmann. Hartmann pinned Radford 4:20 into the bout to seal the victory for Duke.

The Mountaineers return to the Varsity Gym Sunday, Feb. 08 to take on Chattanooga. Both teams enter the contest with perfect Southern Conference records.
