BOONE, N.C – Appalachian State University wrestling returned to the mats on Sunday to take on The Citadel Bulldogs. The Mountaineers (6-6, 3-0 SoCon) defeated the Bulldogs 21-13 for their third Southern Conference Victory of the season.

The match started at 165 pounds with Nick Kee taking on Will Connell. Kee won by technical fall 20-4 to give Appalachian and early 5-0 lead. Forrest Przybysz made it two wins in a row when he defeated Kenneth Radford 3-1. 

Appalachian led 8-0 when Nick Vetell took the mat to face Jack Duane for the 184 pound match-up. Vetell won with a 7-3 decision. At 197 pounds Marcus Johnson squared off with 2014 NCAA qualifier Marshall Haas. Johnson dropped a 12-5 decision to give The Citadel its first points of the match.

Denzel Dejournette got the Mountaineers back on track with a 2-0 decision win over Joe Bexley at heavyweight. Appalachian led 14-3 going into the intermission.

After the break, Dominic Parisi helped extend the Mountaineer lead when he won a 7-2 decision over Jaoquin Marquez at 125 pounds. Vito Pasone followed up Parisi's decision win a 12-1 major decision of his own to push the Appalachian lead to 21-3.

The Mountaineers would then drop decision at 141 pounds and 149 pounds. At 141, Michael Longo dropped a close 3-2 to Tyler Buckiso. At 149, Javon Johnson was defeated 8-0 by SoCon Wrestler of the Week Matt Frisch. 

In the last match of the day Zack Strickland took on No. 15 Aaron Walker who was a 2014 NCAA qualifier. Walker defeated Strickland 8-3 but it was not enough for the Bulldogs as Appalachian won 21-13.

The Mountaineers will be in action next Saturday at the Varsity Gym for the Appalachian Open.
