Postgame Quotes
Appalachian State
Head Coach Scott Satterfield
Opening Statement
"This week we had to focus on correcting last week. All week we knew today's game was not about our opponent, it was about us and correcting last week's performance. This past week we've put in a lot of effort and we've been pouring it on."
On bouncing back after Michigan:
"We have been working on getting our confidence back this week, we know our guys are in a fragile state right now because you need success to feel good. We have been practicing and playing for each other, we've become very team oriented. Next week we will focus on becoming more physical."
On playing so many players, including quarterbacks Kam Bryant and Taylor Lamb:
We've been playing a lot of guys up front in order to evaluate them and their skills. For Kam and Taylor, everyday is a competition for those two. We want to put the players who give us the best chance to win on the field. If our receivers have a hot hand we are going to leave them out there."
DB Doug Middleton
On the effect of the lightning delay:
"It was pretty tough to keep the guys focused, but I think that once coach told us that we were going back in everyone locked back in and were ready to go."
WR Simms McElfresh
On his early success in the game:
"I'm getting fortunate. Coaches are calling plays for me, and I'm trying to execute on them and gets some yards and points for us."
On the team's attitude coming into the game::
"App has a winning tradition and we got embarrassed on ESPN. That was not acceptable. We had a good talk in a team meeting and decided we need to get back on that tradition and make a name for ourselves."
RB Marcus Cox
On on his success during the game:
“We stuck to the game plan. We wanted to run the ball because it was a strong point for us last week versus Michigan who has a very good defense. We felt against Campbell we could run the ball well."
On bouncing back from his preseason injury:
"I feel like it could have been better, but coming off of what I have been dealing with the past couple weeks I felt good out there. I feel like it will just take time to get back to midseason form. The more carries I get the better I'll be."
Campbell
Head Coach Mike Minter
Opening Statement:
It was a tough one and we knew that coming into the game. When you can't run the ball and you can't throw the ball then you can't play football. At the end of the day it was tough. We couldn't stop their offense. They did a good job at spreading us out and getting us one and one with people, which is what they were supposed to do. It was a great job by them. It really shows you how great Michigan is in the Big Ten because that team (Appalachian) looked like they were Super Bowl champs to us. We learn from it and we thank God for the opportunity to come up here and play in a big game like this.
On playing FBS schools:
Our team has to see that this is a different level of football. There's a completely different speed. I think the experience is good for us. The other thing is we picked up the App game to get a weight room and you guys helped us. Part of what you have to look at is what are we building for the future and App helped us get that. Is 66-0 worth it? I think our new weight room will be there for a long time and everyone will forget about this game.
On what Campbell learned:
They learned about the tempo that you have to play at to be great. This is what great offenses and defenses look like. The tempo they played at looked like warp speed to us. I really believe what our team learned from this game is the intensity we have to play with.
On what Campbell did well:
The thing I love about my team is that we came here and we weren't scared. A lot of will come into a big moment like this and be scared of this moment. We were mentally strong and ready for this game. App is just a great team.
RB Keith Goss
On what was learned during the game:
"It's just a lesson and it's just work, it's practice for us. I love it, flying around and having guys at that level of football doing that good, it's just getting us better and I enjoyed it.
On what Campbell does moving forward:
We nice, we good. We're going to get the little things right and I honestly think we got the defense, we got the best team. I just believe that. That's just what I do. And I feel like that's how we're going to get it done.
DT Greg Milhouse
On what Campbell did well:
"We didn't give up at all during the game. You just take the positives and learn from the mistakes and get better for the game next week on Thursday."
On what made the difference:
"It was definitely faster than what we played last week but I think the biggest thing was just missed tackles. We missed a lot of tackles."
On returning to Appalachian State:
"The Rock, it's a special place. It's a good environment and stuff like that. It was good to go against my boys who I've built relationships with for two years. It's good experience."
