Eight Mountaineers on NFL Rosters as Season Begins

EIght Appalachian State University football alumni remain with National Football League organizations as the NFL enters its first week of regular-season play.

Five former Mountaineers are on their teams' 53-man active rosters:

Third-year running back Travaris Cadet (New Orleans Saints)

Fourth-year offensive lineman Daniel Kilgore (San Fancisco 49ers)

Second-year punter Sam Martin (Detroit Lions)

Second-year defensive back Demetrius McCray (Jacksonville Jaguars)

Third-year wide receiver Brian Quick (St. Louis Rams)

Wide receivers Andrew Peacock (Detroit Lions) and Tony Washington (Jacksonville Jaguars), both undrafted rookies in 2014, were invited to join their respective teams' 10-man practice squads. NFL practice squad players are permitted to practice, meet and train with their teams during the week but are ineligible to be part of the 45-man roster that dresses for games.

Third-year wide receiver DeAndre Presely begins the year on the Carolina Panthers' physically unable to perform list. Presely was unable to participate in training camp this summer due to a leg injury sustained during offseason workouts. Players designated for the PUP list must sit out the first six games their team plays. At that point, teams have a five-week window to allow the player to begin practicing and, from the day the player begins practicing, teams have an additional 21-day window to decide whether to activate the player to the 53-man roster. If either of those deadlines pass, the player must remain on the PUP list for the remainder of the season.
