Appalachian State University men's soccer will travel to USC Upstate on Saturday, Sept. 27 for a showdown with the Spartans. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.

• The Mountaineers dropped a heartbreaker to Radford last Wednesday, Sept. 24. App State led in shots 13-10 and shots on goal 6-5.
• Radford was gifted a free kick nearly seven minutes into overtime and was able to put away the winner on a head ball.
Paul West made four saves in the effort. Keegan Tanaka led in shots with four, while Donovan Japp and Alex Herbst each tallied two a piece.

• USC Upstate enters the match on Saturday with a 2-4-1 overall mark this season, including 1-1 at home.
• Both wins for Upstate have come at VMI (2-0) and at home to Presbyterian (2-0).
• Marvin Schmiege leads the Spartans with eight points that includes three goals and two assists. Joe Brinckwirth is right behind with two goals and three assists for seven points this season.
• Hassan Haddad has received the majority of the minutes thus far and is 1-1-1 on the season with a 2.19 goals against average, including 23 saves and a .719 save percentage. Jack Rubin is 1-3-0 with a 1.85 GAA, 15 saves and a .714 save percentage.

• For the week of Sept. 16, senior forward Stanley Broaden and junior defender Alex Beranger swept the Sun Belt Conference weekly awards by claiming Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
• Broaden netted three goals during the week, including two game-winners and his third career multi-goal game of this career.
• Beranger tallied his first career goal while wearing the Black and Gold in the match against Presbyterian. The junior also led a stingy defense that shut out the Blue Hose.

Stanley Broaden ranks tied for 92nd in the nation and first in the Sun Belt for total goals (3), while also ranking tied for 19th in the nation and first in the conference for game-winning goals (2).
Alex Herbst ranks tied for 25th in the nation and first in the conference in assists per game (0.57) and tied for 14th in the nation and first in the conference in total assists (4).

Shutouts >>
• Appalachian's matches against Presbyterian and Marshall marked the first back-to-back shutout victories for the Mountaineers since the 2012 season.
• The 2-0 blanking of Marshall on the road was the first road shutout victory since a 3-0 win on Aug. 30, 2012 at UNC Asheville.

The Big 425 >>
• The 4-0 victory against Presbyterian on Sept. 12 was the program's 425th win all-time dating back to 1962.
