KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Senior Casey Komline climbed the leaderboard on Sunday to hold the Mountaineers 10th place finish at the Irish Creek Collegiate at the par-71, 7,099 yard The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, N.C.

Komline shot a 1-under-par 70 in the final round to improve from 27th place on Saturday to tie for 12th place in the tournament. Komline shot a 3-over par 216 for the tournament and won the head-to-head battle against 79 golfers.

The Appalachian State University men's golf team shot a 31-over-par 883 for the tournament, 24 shots behind tournament champion No. 47 Georgia State. The Panthers was able to surpass second-place North Florida by one stroke finishing with a 7-over-par 859. North Florida finished with an 8-over-par 860 and tournament host Charlotte finished in third place with a 19-over-par 871.

After tying for 46th place on the first day, Lee Mitchell was able to go 3-over-par in the final round to finish tied for 30th and second for the Mountaineers. John Michael Cole, who was first for Appalachian after day on,  finished tied for 41st and third for the Mountaineers.

Eric Eberspeaker was not able to better his position in the final round, finishing in 52nd place. Caleb Keck finished last for the Mountaineers and tied for 81st place overall.

MJ Maguire of North Florida, who is ranked No. 54 in the country, earned low medalist honors at 8-under-par following a final-round 68. Charlie Bull of Akron and Niall Platt of Notre Dame finished 4-under-par tying for second place.

Appalachian will continue course action at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational at the Country Club of Spartanburg in Spartanburg, S.C on April 14, which would be its last tournament of the regular season before the Southern Conference Championships.
