SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State University women's tennis won the doubles point and cruised to a 5-2 win over Wofford in Southern Conference action on Saturday at the Reeves Tennis Center.
The Mountaineers (6-15, 2-6 SoCon) took an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles points and took four of six singles matches to top the Terriers (5-13, 1-7).
Appalachian's No. 2 doubles team of Clare Cox/McKayla Zupan earned an 8-1 win while it No. 3 tandem of Brianna Armellino/Megan Mullen came away with an 8-5 victory.
In singles play, Jessica Thaggard was the first to finish off her opponent at No. 5 by a final of 6-2, 6-2 while Armellino earned a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 4. Cox picked up a win at No. 1 (7-6 (7-3), 6-0) and Gabrielle Wreder came away with a victory at the No. 3 spot (6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-4).
The Mountaineers return to action on Sunday when they take on Western Carolina at 2:30 p.m. at the Appalachian tennis Courts.
