CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Appalachian State University women's tennis was unable to overcome a strong effort by Chattanooga, as it fell 5-1 in a Southern Conference match on Saturday at the UTC Tennis Courts.
The Mountaineers (4-13, 0-3 SoCon) dropped their sixth-straight match while the Mocs (12-2, 3-0) picked up their eighth-straight victory.
Chattanooga picked up straight-set wins in four of the five singles matches that were played, No. 5 singles was not played as the match had already been decided at that point.
Gabrielle Wreder came away with Appalachian's lone win on the day as she picked up a thrilling victory at No. 4 singles. After falling by a 6-4 score in the first set, Wreder picked up a 6-2 win in the second set and hung on for a 12-10 victory in the decisive third set.
Appalachian's best showing in double play came from the No. 2 team of Clare Cox/Megan Mullen, which suffered an 8-5 loss.
The Mountaineers return to action on Wednesday when they travel to SoCon foe Furman for a 3 p.m. match before returning home to take on UNCG at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
