BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University women's tennis began a four-match homestand with a 7-0 win over Lees-McRae on Wednesday at Yonahlossee Racquet Club.
The Mountaineers (3-4) quickly wrapped up the doubles point early and carried their momentum into singles play to sweep the Bobcats (1-5) and capture their second-straight win while remaining undefeated at home.
Appalachian's duo of Olivia Isbey/McKayla Zupan picked up a 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles, while the No. 2 team of Clare Cox/Megan Mullen came away with an 8-0 victory as well.
The No. 1 doubles team Mackenzie LaSure/Gabrielle Wreder led 5-1, but the match went unfinished as Appalachian had already wrapped up the doubles point.
The Mountaineers continued their dominance in singles play, winning all six matches with ease. Wreder captured a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 while Brianna Armellino won her match at No. 2 by a final of 6-2, 6-0. In the No. 3 singles match, Zupan snagged a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Sarah King won her match at the No. 4, quickly defeating Taylor Bost (6-0, 6-0), while Megan Mullen had the same success at the No. 5, winning 6-0, 6-0 as well. Carson Shell had a hard-fought battle at the No. 6, but still grabbed the final singles point winning 6-0, 6-2.
The Mountaineers remain home as they host East Carolina on Friday at 3 p.m. at Yohnalossee Racquet Club. Appalachian opens Southern Conference action on Saturday against Samford and wraps up the homestand against Charlotte on Monday.
