KANNAPOLIS, N.C.— In order to get more rounds under their belts and to boost experience before the spring season begins, the Appalachian State men's golf team took three golfers to the Irish Creek JV Intercollegiate tournament in Kannapolis, N.C. where players competed individually.
The JV tournament is a two-round, par-71 course and had a total yardage of 7,099. Eighteen different schools competed in the event.
Junior
Andrew Furr came in first for Appalachian and tied for 31st overall. He surpassed his first-round total of 81 on Monday by shooting a 72 (+1) on Tuesday. He posed a total score of 153 (+11).
“Andrew had a solid round of playing today,” head coach William Dicus said. “He played under par until he double bogeyed his last hole to finish +1.”
Freshman
Patrick Moriarty and Senior
Dustin Abele also competed in the tournament placing tied for 40th and 54th, respectively. Moriarty finished 13-over-par (77-78=155) and Abele finished 16-over-par (79-79=158).
The spring season officially starts March 10 when the men's golf team competes in the Bash at the Beach in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. at the Surf Golf and Beach Club.
