CONWAY, S.C. – Appalachian State University women's tennis dropped its second match of the weekend in a 6-1 loss at Coastal Carolina on Saturday at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
The Mountaineers (1-4) were unable to overcome the strong play of the Chanticleers (8-1), picking up just one win on the day.
Gabrielle Wreder was Appalachian's lone point-scorer as she snagged a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles as Coastal won the doubles point and all remaining five singles matches.
Clare Cox was able to send her match at No. 1 into a decisive third set, but ultimately fell by a score of 6-5, 3-6, 10-6 while Jessica Thaggard did the same at No. 5 (6-3, 2-6, 10-5).
Mackenzie LaSure dropped her match at No. 2 (6-4, 6-5) while Brianna Armellino lost at NO. 3 (6-3, 6-0) and Sarah King fell at No. 6 (6-1, 6-0)
Coastal Carolina swept doubles play with 8-2, 8-5 and 8-4 wins at No. 1, 2 and 3, respectively. The Mountaineers will wrap up their three-match road trip when they take on Presbyterian at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
