Chapman and Harrow Earn SBC Players of the Week

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Appalachian State University men's soccer players Stephen Chapman and Patrick Harrow earned Sun Belt Conference Players of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

With both Chapman and Harrow earning weekly awards, it marks the second time this season that the Mountaineers have swept the weekly accolades. Both Stanley Broaden and Alex Beranger swept Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week on Sept. 16.

"Both of these guys were integral pieces last week in our win," said head coach Matt Nelson. "I'm glad the coaches in our conference recognized their contributions."

Chapman, a sophomore, and Harrow, a senior, each contributed at a high level in helping the Mountaineers push past Longwood on the road last Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Chapman, a Greensboro, N.C. native, earned Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals, including the game-winner at Longwood. The effort marked Chapman's first career multi-goal output, including his fifth and sixth career goals. The game-winner was also the striker's second of his career.

Trailing 2-1 to the Lancers, Harrow sent a long ball up the far sideline in stride with Chapman who was able to put it in the back of the net for the equalizer. Then in the 73rd minute with the score tied, Chapman headed in the game-winner off of a John Walrath cross to the back post.

Chapman joins Broaden and Donovan Japp as other Mountaineers to earn Offensive Player of the Week.

Harrow, a Davidson, N.C. native, earned Defensive Player of the Week after providing stellar defense on the backline and serving up two helpers in the Mountaineers' win. Both assists in the match doubled Harrow's career total in that category.

The senior tallied his first assist after Alex Herbst chipped a free kick into the box, Harrow struck it with one touch across the goaline to the back post where Broaden was able to head it in for an early 1-0 lead. Later, Harrow sent the long ball up to Chapman who tied the game at 2-2 as a result of the assist.

Harrow joins Beranger as the only other Mountaineer to earn Defensive Player of the Week.

The Mountaineers will finish up their regular season and conference season with Senior Night at Appalachian Soccer Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 8. App State will host Sun Belt foe NJIT for a 7:30 p.m. kick off.
