BOONE, N.C. – In a game in which Appalachian State University men's soccer earned more scoring chances than its opponent, App State fell to Georgia State 1-0 in overtime on Saturday evening.
The Mountaineers (4-6-3, 0-1-2 Sun Belt) fell to the Panthers on an Andy Anglade goal in the 99th minute in the first overtime. Anglade sped past the defense on the far side and was able to score to his right to propel the Panthers.
Appalachian led in shots 16-10 and total scoring chances were highly in favor of the Mountaineers. With four shots on goal, App State had numerous extra chances inside the box but could not put the ball on frame.
Holland Hammond stood on his head for the majority of the match and made spectacular saves to keep the game scoreless. Hammond made six saves on the night, including two where he had to dive to both his right and left with full extension to stop Panther shots.
Stanley Broaden led the team in shots with five, including three on goal. Stephen Chapman and Trey Hemphill tallied three shots each.
The Mountaineers will return to action next Saturday, Oct. 25 when they host former Southern Conference and current Sun Belt rival Georgia Southern. Kick off is slated for 7 p.m. from Appalachian Soccer Stadium.
