Postgame Quotes: Appalachian vs. Charleston So.
CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 27, APPALACHIAN STATE 24
SEPTEMBER 28, 2013 • BOONE, N.C. (KIDD BREWER STADIUM)
POSTGAME QUOTES

Appalachian State

Head Coach Scott Satterfield
Opening statement:
“First of all, this is obviously a disappointing loss for us. As it is any time you lose a football game, this is definitely disappointing to us because losing is unacceptable for us. I'm not going to sit here and make a lot of excuses. Charleston Southern did an excellent job handling the ball. They controlled the clock. That is how they have been able to win football games. They had over 43 minutes of possession time and 27 first downs, it's hard to get anything going defensively when a team has the ball that long.

On what was the deciding factor in the game:
“We just have to do a better job on defense getting off the field and getting them in situations where we can get them off because they converted three first downs on fourth and short. That was the difference in the game, they got theirs and we didn't get ours.

RB Marcus Cox
On unsuccessful fourth down run play on the first drive of the fourth quarter:
“I didn't execute the play as I should. We had a nice play design, the guy slipped off a block and I should have broken the tackle but I didn't. I'll take the blame for that one.”

QB Kameron Bryant
On unsuccessful fourth-down pass play on the final drive:
“The played well the whole game. They just outplayed us on the play. I wasn't surprised that we threw the ball there because we have practiced that same situation. Their cornerback just made a great play.”

DE Adam Scott:
On CSU converting the fourth-downs
“It's never a nice feeling when you feel like you're going to stop someone and all of a sudden they get the momentum. It was just mental errors. People not fitting the gaps where they should and they were a good football team.”

Charleston Southern

Head Coach Jamey Chadwell
Opening Statement:
“We have a lot of respect for Appalachian as a program, and coming in to an environment we weren't accustomed to, a hostile environment like this, and the high-powered offense that they run,  I thought that if we could survive the first quarter and stick with them then we would do well. I am overjoyed with the outcome.”

Second half adjustments:
“Honestly, I felt like we could really control the ball on offense and make a few adjustments on defense and really control the game. I think the second half they only scored one touchdown and we had numerous chances. We thought that if we could protect the ball and play good defense that we could win this game in the fourth quarter.”

Key to the game:
“We didn't beat ourselves. We were able to overcome the penalties and just one turnover. We survived the first quarter not being down and after that we were fine. I felt like on third and fourth down our whole team did a fantastic job. On offense and on defense two fourth down stops became turnovers. We did a great job in that aspect of the game.”

FB Christian Reyes
Meaning of this win:
“We've had doubters all season and we have focused on playing for each other and earning more respect. Coming in here and beating App State really helps us to earn respect. We like having this chip on our shoulder and having the ability to earn the respect that we deserve.”

WR Kevin Glears
On game-winning touchdown catch:
I saw the ball in the air and had to go up and make the play. It was all for Malcolm. He's our leader and when he got hurt we had to go in and make the play. It was by far the biggest catch of my life and it was the best game of my life by far.”
