HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS,
Fla. - After beginning the final round of the Mission Inn Spring
Spectacular is seventh place, Appalachian State University men's golf moved up
one position and tied Florida Atlantic for the sixth spot, firing a team score
of 301 on Sunday at Mission Inn Golf Course.
The Mountaineers could not beat their second round total of
293 and matched their opening round score for a combined total of 895 (+31).
Junior Casey Komline posted the best
score of the tournament for the Apps, but was unable to improve his second-round,
69 (-3). Komline finished the two-day event with a 74-69-76=219 (+3) and tied for
11th place.
For today's rounds, graduate student Daniel Walsh and freshman Lee
Mitchell led Appalachian with matching 74s (+2). Walsh's overall score of
75-75-74=224 (+8) tied him for 27th place, while Mitchell's
76-76-74=226 (+10) tied him for 35th place.
Drawing even with Mitchell was senior Josh Nichols, who fired a 76-73-77=226 (+10).
Rounding out the Mountaineer lineup was sophomore Eric Eberspeaker with an 81-78-79=238
(+22).
Individually, freshman Caleb
Keck led all individuals for the tournament with a 73-73-75=221 (+5), one
shot better than Georgia State's individual player, Damon Stephenson. Also
scoring high as individual was senior Drew
Harris with a 75-75-76=226 (+10), tying him with Mitchell and Nichols.
Indiana captured the team title with a 292-286-291=869 (+5),
two shots better than runner-ups, Purdue and Virginia Tech. Georgia State
finished fourth (875), while Old Dominion (887) placed fifth.
The Mountaineers return to action on Sunday, March 24, as
they travel to the C&F Bank Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va. The
tournament hosted by William & Mary will be held at Kingsmill Resort.
