POSTGAME NOTES

Team

• With consecutive wins for the first time this season, Appalachian State closes the campaign at 4-8 overall and 4-4 in Southern Conference play.

• Appalachian State won its 296th and final Southern Conference game. In 42 seasons in the SoCon, Appalachian posted a 204-87-5 record in conference play. Appalachian State begins play in the NCAA Division I FBS Sun Belt Conference in 2014.

• Appalachian State defeated longtime rival Western Carolina (2-10, 1-7 SoCon) for the ninth-straight year and 27th time in the last 29 meetings.

• Appalachian State moved to 59-18-1 all-time against Western Carolina, including a 31-7 record in 38 games since the introduction of the Old Mountain Jug in 1976 (the traveling trophy given to the winner of the Appalachian-Western Carolina game).

• With wins in their final two games (including last Saturday's 33-21 win at No. 24 Wofford), Appalachian State avoided finishing below .500 in SoCon play for the first time since going 2-5 in 1984.

• Appalachian State's 48 points were a season-high and good for its first 40-point game since a 55-14 win over Coastal Carolina on Sept. 29, 2012, ending a span of 18 games in between 40-point games. The 18-game span without scoring 40 points in a game was Appalachian State's longest since a 21-game span from Oct. 14, 1995-Sept. 20, 1997.

Individual

• Appalachian State freshman running back Marcus Cox rushed for an Appalachian State freshman record 215 yards (prev. 207 – Alan Atwater vs. Chattanooga, Nov. 1, 2003).

• With the 215 rushing yards, Cox also set a new Appalachian State freshman record with 1,250 rushing yards on the season (prev., 1,153 – Armanti Edwards, 2006). The 1,250 yards rank 13th overall in Appalachian State history.

• Cox scored four touchdowns (three rushing, one receiving) to set Appalachian State freshman records for single-game and season (21) touchdowns.

• Cox's three rushing touchdowns gave him 15 for the season, matching the Appalachian State freshman record set by Edwards in '06.

• Appalachian State senior linebacker Karl Anderson's 37-yard interception return for a touchdown was the second interception and first touchdown of his career.
