SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State University wrestling has been projected to finish second in the Southern Conference according to the annual conference coaches' poll released on Thursday.
The Mountaineers, who finished second last season during the regular season, finished just four points behind projected champion, Chattanooga, which tallied 46 points and four first-place votes. App State garnered 42 points and two first-place votes, including four wrestlers named to the preseason all-conference team.
Rounding out the poll was The Citadel (41) which finished third, Gardner-Webb (28), Campbell (27), SIUE (19), Davidson (12) and VMI (9).
Highlighting this season's preseason all-SoCon team for the Mountaineers were Dominic Parisi at 125 pounds, Dylan Cottrell at 149 pounds, Zack Strickland at 165 pounds and Paul Weiss at 197 pounds.
Appalachian begins its 2013-14 schedule on Sunday, Nov. 10 when the Apps host both Anderson and Cumberland College at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
