POSTGAME QUOTES

Appalachian State

Head Coach Scott Satterfield
Opening Statement:
“ I want to tip my hat to Samford and their coaching staff. I think they (Samford) have done an outstanding job over the past three or four years. When they first started in the Southern Conference, they weren't ready and they have done a great job building the program from the bottom and worked their way to the top. They have really good skill players and guys up front. I think that (linebacker) Justin Shade is as good as anybody we will play. Offensively, they have a quarterback who has been through a lot. At times, we looked really good on defense, then we would give up a big play, and that ultimately hurt us. Offensively, we never got in a rhythm and it was a bad day. We will have to go back and figure out what we want to start doing and what we need to be doing. There were three or four times that we had a chance for a big play and we just weren't able to make them.”

On what didn't click on offense:
“Not sure until we go back and look at film. Early on, I think it was something in the passing game, possibly late throws or not having rhythm. They did a good job scheme-wise blitzing in the second half, we tried to get the ball to our playmakers and we couldn't.”

On being surprised Samford scored the last touchdown:
“Yes, I was surprised. They could have really taken a knee because we weren't calling timeouts. It was probably five or six years of frustration and they know it's the last time playing us. I expect every team to give us their best shot and try to score as much as they can and hold us to as few points as they can.”

Quarterback Kameron Bryant
On what went wrong offensively:
“Too many missed plays, had the chance to make big plays happen, and I didn't today. Connecting on the big plays can change the momentum, and we couldn't do that today. I place this on my shoulders, I have to make better plays and get the ball in the hands of the guys on the outside. “

On not finding rhythm early:
“When we get chances early, we have to make them happen. We had a chance to put points on the board and it would really get momentum in our favor. We didn't execute and it came back to bite us.”

Defensive Back Alex Gray
On how challenging it was to keep coming back after the offense couldn't do much:
“We came into the came into the game expecting it to be a little slow. We knew they would come out strong defensively and try to keep our offense off the field. We are in shape, so it wasn't really that difficult. The coaches made some adjustments for us, but we just have to make the plays. When we are on the field for so long, you are going to give up those points and those yards.”

Samford

Head Coach Pat Sullivan

On beating Appalachian State University:
“Appalachian State was the only team in the conference that we have never beaten.  Their  1-4 record was not any indication of what type of football team they had and we had to find a way to leave it all out there and get to our off week to rest and get healthy.  Our guys did it and our coaches did it. It was a huge win for our team.”

On Keeping Appalachian to less than 300 yards on offense:
“The defense played great. The sacks were huge. We got back some players this week that played amazing tonight and our young guys were able to step in and get some reps. I'm really proud of our defense for what they did today.”

Running Back Fabian Truss
On the effectiveness of the run game  and the big win:
“First I have to thank God for the win and say congrats to the offensive line and receivers for blocking so well. It is a great feat and an overall great win especially for the 11 seniors on the team because we have never beaten Appalachian State. We are ready to rest up and get ready for the next game.”

Defensive Back Jaquiski Tartt
On the preparation for the game:
“Coach Sullivan did a great job getting us ready for the game this week in practice. We knew Appalachian was going to run the no-huddle and coach really pushed urgency on us. It was good to see our team step up and I'm just happy to get the win.”
