-- Appalachian State University men's soccer fell
3-1 in its preseason opener against High Point Saturday night at the Vert
Track, Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.
The Mountaineers
struck first in the 17th minute as freshman Ewahia Amhanesi found
the back of the net, putting the App State ahead.
The Panthers
responded quickly with a goal in the 26th minute as Leon Carby beat
Appalachian goalkeeper Paul West to level the score at 1-1.
HPU then took the
lead in the 61st minute when Adam Sewell scored off an Austin
Yearwood assist. The Panthers added an insurance goal in the 66th
minute as Carby tallied his second of the night.
The Apps were out
shot 18-9, and three of the Mountaineer shots came on goal. Playing the whole
match, West tallied eight saves and senior Josiah Trower lead ASU with four
shots.
The Mountaineers will
finish their preseason schedule on Monday, Aug. 20 when they return home to
face VMI. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
