Men's Golf Finishes 13th at Coca-Cola Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State University men's golf carded a 296-293-303=892 (+28) to place 13th at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the Country Club of Spartanburg.

The Mountaineers were led by Darren Cook, who carded a 70-70-79=219 (+3) to place 25th on the strength of 13 birdies. The senior had been tied for fifth place after 36 holes as Monday's rounds of 70 matched a season low for the Boone native.

Dustin Hudson finished strong in Tuesday's final round on the strength of two eagles with a 76-77-69=222 (+6), good for a tie for 41st place in the field of 90 golfers. He was followed closely by 56th-place finisher Josh Nichols. The junior fired a 76-73-77=226 (+10).

Casey Komline placed 71st with a 74-74-80=228 (+12) and Jason Woodall finished with an 81-76-78=235 (+19) in a tie for 86th.

Charleston Southern claimed the team title with an 841 (-23), 10 strokes ahead of second-place ETSU. Campbell's Vaita Guillame claimed the individual medal with a tournament-record 204 (-12), including a 64 in the second round. He placed one stroke ahead of CSU's Jacobo Pastor.

From the Southern Conference, host Wofford placed fourth at 869 (+5), Samford tied in eighth at 872 (+8), Davidson edged out ASU for 12th at 888 (+24) and Elon came in 16th with an 895 (+31). Wofford's B Team placed 15th with an 894 (+30).

The Mountaineers now turn their attention to the SoCon Tournament on Daniel Island's Ralston Creek on April 15-17.
