Women's 4x400m Relay Team Breaks ASU Record at PSU

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Appalachian State University women's track and field posted six top-eight finishers at Penn State's Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup on Saturday.

Sophomore Breanna Alston ran a season-best 24.68 200-meter dash to take a third place finish and finished in sixth in the 60-meter dash (7.69).

Senior Asia Dunlap missed breaking ASU's 400m record by 0.43 of a second to place seventh (56.76).

Last week, Dunlap, Breahna Morrison, Shenita Martin, and Alston nearly missed breaking the 4x400-meter relay record, but today the speedy foursome shattered the school record (3:49.39) by nearly two seconds.

Sarah Williamson ran a personal-best and Appalachian season-best 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:11.02 to take a eighth-place finish.

Freshman Chelsea Farr continued her strong rookie performance by clearing 12-9.50 in the pole vault to place runner-up and take the second spot in ASU's record book, while Cassie Crawford cleared a season-best 12-1.50 for ninth-place.

Gayshawna Watkins threw a Mountaineer's season-best 56-2.50 for a sixth place finish in the weight throw.

Erika Ivey
grabbed an eighth-place finish (38-8.25) in the triple jump.

The Mountaineers travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the Samford/UAB/BSC Invite on Feb. 10-11.
