KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Lance Wheeler carded a 75-67=142 (E) to tie for third place and lead five Appalachian State University men's golfers at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate. The Mountaineers did not enter a team but posted a strong showing among five individual players.

The senior's 67 on Tuesday was a career low and tied for the fifth-lowest round in Appalachian history. Wheeler's previous best was a 68 in the 2008 Sea Trail Invitational. His 36-hole total of 142 ties him with former teammate Jacob Eggers for the fourth-lowest tournament total as well.

Eric Eberspeaker also had a strong second day with a 75-70=145 (+3) to place seventh, just one stroke ahead of teammate Josh Nichols, who shot a 73-73=146 (+5) to tie for eighth place.

Drew Harris tied for 27th place with a 74-78=152 (+10) and Daniel Walsh carded a 72-81=153 (+11) to end the competition in 31st place.

Charlotte's Joe Toland won the individual medal with a 70-70=140 (-2) and host Pfeiffer came away with the team title at 291-289=580 (+12). Queens University finished second, 10 strokes behind.

The Mountaineers host Western Carolina in the annual co-ed University Cup on Wednesday at Morganton, N.C.'s Mimosa Hills Country Club.
