Women's Track has Record Setting Day in Boone
BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University women's track and field earned nine top finishes at the Appalachian Pre-Conference Open Meet on Friday at the Holmes Center and Varsity Gym.

Senior Asia Dunlap highlighted the meet for the Mountaineers by breaking the school 500-meter record with at time of 1:13.07.  Dunlap passed MJ Harrelson's mark of 1:14.73 which was set in 1999.

The record-breaking 4x400-meter relay team of Dunlap, Breanna Alston, Breahna Morrison and Shenita Martin broke ASU's Holmes Center record by  six seconds with a time of 3:50.99.

Alston broke the Holmes Center 200-meter record with the mark of 24.71 to claim first-place, while Kristen Campbell won the 55-meter dash (7.40).

In the distance events, Taryn Stern won the 800-meter with a time of 2:23.18.  Kayla Schneider claimed the meet's mile title with a personal-best 5:09.33, while Kelsey Hanger won the 3,000-meter run.

Sophomore Cassie Crawford cleared 12-5.50 in the pole vault for a season-best and finished in first-place.  Gayshawna Watkins threw 44-9 in the shot put, which was good for first-place.

The Mountaineers look to cap off a successful indoor season at the Southern Conference Championship on Feb. 23-24 in Birmingham, Ala. at the brand new state-of-the-art Birmingham CrossPlex.
