Moen and Purcell Lead ASU at Vulcan Invitational
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – First-place performances by Chris Moen in the mile and Darius Purcell in the high jump lead Appalachian State University men's track and field on Friday and Saturday at the Vulcan Invitational hosted by Samford, UAB and BSC.

The senior from Rockville, Md., Moen ran a season-best time of 4:10.16 to claim the mile title, and also finished eighth in the 800-meters (1:55.61).

In the 3,000-meter run, Will Raby earned a seventh-place finish (8:26.63) while Sean Soderman crossed the finish line in 10th (8:31.22).

Freshman Stanley Broaden finished in eighth with a 8.24 mark in the 60-meter hurdles, while senior AJ Dohanic finished in 10th-place (8.30) after posting a personal-best time of 8.17 in the preliminaries.

Landon Powell finished in 11th-place with a time of 6.98 in the 60-meter dash.

Tyler Combs, Broaden, Daryl Saunders, David Riddleberger posted a time of 3:22.95 in the 4x400-meter relay to claim a seventh-place finish.

The dynamic high jump duo of Purcell and Saunders continue to have spectacular seasons.  Purcell cleared 7-00.25 to place first while Saunders earned a fourth-place finish (6-8.75).

Sophomore Jamal Tiller rounded out the Mountaineers top-performers with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (48-11.75).

The Mountaineers will compete on Friday in Boone, N.C. for the Appalachian Pre-Conference Open Meet at 3 p.m.
