BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's indoor track is set to compete in its opening meet of the 2012 campaign on Friday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at the Holmes Convocation Center.

The Mountaineers will host its first of three home meets as they welcome eight other schools to High Country, including Southern Conference opponent Western Carolina and in-state opponents Methodist College, Gardner-Webb University, Livingston College, Lees-McRae College and UNC Asheville on Saturday morning.

The Appalachian Invitational will kick off Friday night with the weight throw and the triple jump starting at 5 p.m. and resume Saturday morning at 11 a.m.

The Apps return 13 all-conference performers senior Jared Stalling who took home the SoCon title in the shot put last season and top sprinters Landon Powell and Justin Thomas.

The Black and Gold will see leadership from senior duo, Alex Taylor and Chris Moen, in middle distance as they were both key members of the dual medley relay team who broke a 28-year old record last season. The team returns all four members, including sophomores David Riddleberger and Raphael Rojas.

Junior Jamal Tiller returns for the Apps after qualifying for the NCAA East Preliminaries last season in the triple jump. Sophomore Daryl Saunders joins Tiller for the jumpers after playing a key role in his freshman season as one of the high jumpers.

The Apps will return to action after winter break on Friday, Jan. 18 when they host the Mountaineer Open Meet at the Holmes Convocation Center.
