BOONE, N.C. -
Appalachian State University men's indoor track is set to compete in its
opening meet of the 2012 campaign on Friday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at the Holmes
Convocation Center.
The Mountaineers will host its first of three home meets as
they welcome eight other schools to High Country, including Southern Conference
opponent Western Carolina and in-state opponents Methodist College,
Gardner-Webb University, Livingston College, Lees-McRae College and UNC
Asheville on Saturday morning.
The Appalachian Invitational will kick off Friday night with
the weight throw and the triple jump starting at 5 p.m. and resume Saturday
morning at 11 a.m.
The Apps return 13 all-conference performers senior Jared Stalling who took home the SoCon title in
the shot put last season and top sprinters Landon Powell and Justin Thomas.
The Black and Gold will see leadership from senior duo, Alex Taylor and Chris Moen, in middle distance as they were both key members of
the dual medley relay team who broke a 28-year old record last season. The team
returns all four members, including sophomores David Riddleberger and Raphael Rojas.
Junior Jamal Tiller
returns for the Apps after qualifying for the NCAA East Preliminaries last
season in the triple jump. Sophomore Daryl Saunders joins Tiller for the jumpers after playing a key
role in his freshman season as one of the high jumpers.
The Apps will return to action after winter break on Friday,
Jan. 18 when they host the Mountaineer Open Meet at the Holmes Convocation
Center.
