CLEVELAND, Ohio -
Appalachian State University men's golf team played three solid rounds at the
Cleveland State Invitational to finish third out of 11 teams this afternoon.
The Mountaineers carded a 306-305-281=892 (+28) at the Canterbury Golf Club in
Cleveland, Ohio.
Josh Nichols led the
way for App State as he finished the tournament tied for second, shooting a
73-73-68=214 (-2). Daniel Walsh
carded a 79-78-69=226 (+10), which was good to tie for 17th overall
and second for the Black and Gold.
Both Jay Brown and Andrew Furr for 26th in the
tournament. Brown shot a 77-78-74=229 (+13) and Furr shot an 83-76-70=229 (+13)
over the course of two days.
Junior Casey Komline
rounded out the scoring for Appalachian shooting a 77-80-74=231 (+15) for three
rounds.
Oakland claimed the team championship with an 871 (+7)
behind medalist Evan Bowser who finished with a 213 (-3) overall. Cleveland
State clinched the second place finish shooting just three behind Oakland with
an 874 (+10), while Appalachian took home a third place finish with a final
score of 892 (+28).
The Mountaineers will be back in action on Monday, Oct. 15
and Tuesday, Oct. 16 when they host the Donald Ross Intercollegiate Tournament.
The two-day event will be held at Mimosa Hills Country Club in Morganton, N.C.
