BOONE, N.C. - After a rough 0-2 start to the season,
Appalachian State University men's tennis looks to pick up a win in its first
home match against UNC Asheville at Deer Valley Racquet Club on Sunday at 3
p.m.
The Mountaineers stumbled against nationally-ranked UNC
Wilmington to start the season and faltered at SEC foe South Carolina. With two
of their toughest opponents behind them, the Apps look to rebound this weekend.
Appalachian is led by senior Alex Markov (0-2) who was a
first-team all Southern Conference selection in 2011. Classmate Alain Humblet
(1-1) is the only Mountaineer to pick up an individual victory this season,
playing at the No. 3 spot against UNCW.
In doubles, regionally-ranked pair of Humblet and
fellow-senior Philip Kloc (1-1) dominated their match against UNCW but were
unable to pull out a win against a tough USC duo.
UNCA (0-1) began the year with a 0-7 loss to No. 59 N.C.
State and is also seeking its first victory. Junior Adrien Langeard (0-1) is
the team's top singles player in a lineup that is augmented by five other
upperclassmen.
Junior Matt Waissen and senior Jonas Brobeck (0-1) make up
the team's top pair and posted a winning record at No. 1 doubles in 2011.
The match will be played off-campus at Deer Valley Racquet
Club's indoor courts. Click here for directions.
