BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University men's track and field solid performance earned them 10 top-three finishers at the Appalachian Split Meet Open Thursday night to help prepare the squad for the 30-plus team meet next week at ETSU.
The Mountaineers' sprinters performed very well with junior
Landon Powell earned a second-place finish (34.75) while freshman
Stanley Broaden finished third (35.75) in the 300-meter dash. Junior
Justin Thomas and senior
AJ Dohanic tied for third in the 55-meter dash with the times of 6.56. Dohanic used his momentum for the 55-meter dash to excel in the 55-meter hurdles with the meets top time of 7.67. Broaden earned runner-up with a time of 7.70 in the 55-meter hurdles.
Junior
Michael Lilley earned a runner-up finish in the 3,000-meter run crossing the finish line 8:56.35.
In the field events junior
Jared Stalling threw a meet best 52-7.25 to win the shot put, while senior
Caleb Poplin finished in second-place (53-8.50) in the weight throw. Senior
Jack Bell tied for third place in the pole vault after clearing 14-1.25.
Appalachian's next meet takes place at the ETSU Invitational on January 27 at Johnson City, Tenn.
