BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University women's track and field solid performance earned them 11 top-two finishers at the Appalachian Split Open Meet Thursday night to help prepare the squad for the 30-plus team meet next week at ETSU.
The Mountaineers' sprinters performed very well with sophomore
Kristen Campbell claiming the 55-meter dash title (7.36), while fellow sophomore
Breanna Alston won the 300-meter dash (40.10) and junior
Shenita Martin finished in second (42.05) in the 300-meter dash.
Sophomore
Breahna Morrison crossed the finish line in 59.97 to win the 400-meter dash. Sophomore
Molly Vaughan earned a second-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.57.
In the field events freshman
Sydney Cook skied over 11-0.25 to claim the pole vault title, while junior
Meredith Wilson finished runner-up. Freshman
Janet Watson made her collegiate debut with a second-place finish in the high jump clearing 5-3.25.
In the throw events sophomore
Ana DeLeon finished first in the weight throw for the second-straight week (48-6.25) while fellow sophomore
Jocelyn Parnell finished runner-up with a 48-2.75 throw. Freshman
Jasmine Suydam earned second-place (38-8.25) in the shot put.
Appalachian's next meet takes place at the ETSU Invitational on January 27 at Johnson City, Tenn.
