NOTING SATURDAY'S MATCHUP
• Appalachian (3-1, 1-0 SoCon) and Wofford (2-1, 1-0 SoCon) shared the 2010 SoCon championship with 7-1 league records. However, No. 3 ASU blasted the fourth-ranked Terriers, 43-13, at home on Nov. 13 to clinch its share of the SoCon title.
• For the third time in the last four meetings, both clubs are ranked among the nation's top 10 in the major NCAA Division I FCS polls. At least one team has been ranked in the top 25 for all 14 meetings since Wofford joined the SoCon in 1997.
• No team besides ASU and Wofford has won a SoCon championship since 2004. ASU has won six-straight SoCon titles but shared the crown with Wofford in 2007 and last season.
• Wofford is one of only two SoCon teams that has beaten Appalachian since the beginning of the 2006 season. The Terriers snapped ASU's NCAA Division I-best 17-game winning streak with a 42-31 win over the Mountaineers on Sept. 22, 2007 at Gibbs Stadium.
• Appalachian has won three-straight, six of the last seven and 14 of the last 17 games in the series, dating back to 1973.
• After losing in its first six trips to Wofford, ASU has won five of the last seven matchups with the Terriers in Spartanburg.
• Saturday's marquee matchup features Wofford's rushing offense, which is ranked second nationally with 355.7 yards per game, versus Appalachian's rushing defense, which has limited back-to-back opponents to less than 50 yards on the ground.
• Appalachian's defense has surrendered 12 or fewer points to its three FCS opponents this season while Wofford has scored at least 35 against its two FCS foes.
• ASU's Jerry Moore and Wofford's Mike Ayers are by far the most tenured coaches in the Southern Conference. Moore is in his 23rd season at ASU (202 wins) and 30th year as a head coach (229 wins) while Ayers is in his 24th season at WC (156 wins) and 27th year as a head coach (167 wins). The Citadel's Kevin Higgins is the league's next most experienced coach with seven years at the school (24 wins) and 15 years as a head coach (84 wins).
• In three career games versus Wofford, ASU senior wide receiver Brian Quick has torched the Terriers for 426 yards and seven touchdowns on 17 receptions.
