BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's golf head coach
Bill Dicus announced the signing of
Jason Woodall to a National Letter of Intent for 2011-12 on Tuesday.
Dicus said, “I am excited about the addition of Jason to our program. He comes from a golf family, with his brother being a standout player at the University of Virginia. Jason is an all-around athlete who could make an immediate impact for us.”
The Yanceyville, N.C. native competed four years for coach Chad Seagraves at The Elon School, where he earned all-conference accolades each of the last three seasons.
Woodall was named the team's most valuable player as a junior and senior and won this season's TAC conference tournament.
The 6-1 Woodall was also a basketball standout in high school, earning all-conference honors in three seasons on the hardwood. He scored 1,000 points in his career with an average better than 17 points per game in each of the last two seasons.
Woodall's older brother, Bruce, just completed his junior season with the nationally-ranked University of Virginia golf squad and Woodall's cousin, Thomas Rogers, plays basketball for the Cavaliers.
He joins
Eric Eberspeaker in the 2011-12 freshman class for the Mountaineers, who return 13 players from 2010-11, including the squad's top six players by stroke average.
Appalachian opens the 2011 fall competition season in September.
