Sophomore Trio Leads Women's Golf at SoCon Tourney; Xu Earns All-Conference Honors

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Appalachian State University women's golf finished ninth at the Southern Conference Tournament, hosted at Moss Creek's North Course, on Tuesday. The Mountaineers carded a 331-319-329=979 (+115) at the 54-hole event and were led by Rumbidzai Masamvu's 11th place finish. Classmate Yue Xu earned all-conference honors.

The sophomore carded a 75-78-79=232 (+16) at the three-day tournament with 32 pars and five birdies.

Last year's champion, Xu, finished second for the Apps at 80-79-78=237 (+21) in 19th place overall thanks in part to 34 pars, while fellow sophomore Kristina Boo placed 38th with an 86-75-91=252 (+36), including six birdies.

Senior Kerri Dice closed out her four-year career at the tournament with a 94-87-84=265 (+49) in a tie for 45th place. Junior transfer Brittany Zachrich tied Dice with a 90-87-88=265 (+49) through Tuesday.

Chattanooga ran away with the title at 900 (+36), 30 strokes ahead of College of Charleston. Last year's runner up, UTC's Emma de Groot, took the individual medal at 219 (+3) while teammate Jordan Britt placed second, three strokes behind.

Head coach Heather Brown's squad placed just four strokes behind eighth-place Wofford and held a 70-stroke lead ahead of 10th-place The Citadel.

The league handed out postseason awards following Tuesday's round.
