ASU Student-Athletes and Coaches Give Back During Celebrity Serve

BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State University student-athletes and coaches continued their tradition of participating in Celebrity Serve, as the ASU football, women's basketball and men's basketball teams donated their time at local restaurants as a part of the 2011 Celebrity Serve.

This year's Celebrity Serve benefited the crisis intervention agency OASIS, with all proceeds from the evening being designated for the OASIS Crisis intervention agency.

ASU football student-athletes Jamal Jackson, John Rizor and Jeremy Kimbrough and defensive ends coach Mark Speir volunteered their services at Makotos.

Head men's basketball coach Jason Capel and the men's basketball team were at Woodland's BBQ.

ASU women's basketball head coach Darcie Vincent and associate head coach Heather Kearney and student-athletes Ashleigh Kelly, Courtney Freeman, Haley Hackett, Frances Puello and Jessica Barrios lent a hand at Galileos and assistant coaches Andrea Gross and Nora Jabbour and student-athletes Ashlen Dewart, T.C. Weldon, Anna Freeman, Michelle Taylor and Kelsey Sharkey were in action at Troy's Diner.

Celebrity Serve is a joint effort by participating restaurants in the Boone and Blowing Rock area to benefit local charities. Now in its sixth year, previous efforts have raised more than $150,000 for such organizations as the Watauga Education Foundation (2010), Hospitality House (2009), Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex (2008), Make-A-Wish Foundation (2007) and Hospice (2006).
