BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian
State University men's tennis grabbed its ninth win in 10 matches with a 5-2
routing of UNC Charlotte on Friday afternoon. ASU's road win improves its
record to 11-4 on the season while UNCC drops to 5-14.
The Mountaineers jumped on the 49ers early by sweeping all
three doubles' matches.
Alain Humblet and Philip Kloc kept their winning streak
alive by defeating by claiming an 8-4 victory at the number one pairing. The
duo's streak has now reached 12 straight, and their overall record on the
season is 14-1.
At the No. 2 slot, Alex Markov and Sebastien King pulled out
an impressive 8-6 triumph over Michael Anders and Chris Huynh while Ezekiel
Sansing and Andrew McKinnon won by the same score at the third position.
In singles play, Appalachian continued its dominance by
winning 4-of-6 matches to snag the 5-2 win.
Humblet and Kloc carried over their success in doubles play
to their singles matches with each of them grabbing a win. Humblet defeated
Anders in straight sets at the No. 2 slot, 6-3, 6-2 while Kloc had to hold off
Anthony Daivson at number three after losing the second set. The Australian
would end up winning 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5).
King and McKinnon breezed to a pair of wins at the four and
five position by beating their opponents in two sets.
The Black and Gold's losses of the afternoon came from
Markov at the No. 1 spot and Matt Saltsgaver at the number six slot. Markov
lost a tough match to Charles Martin-Lecamp 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 while freshman Matt
Saltsgaver relinquished ASU's other point falling 7-6 (7-5) 6-0.
The Mountaineers return to Southern Conference action
tomorrow at Grandfather Mountain Country Club as it plays host to Davidson at
12:30 p.m.
