BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State University women's tennis was unable to keep pace with a tough College of Charleston team Sunday afternoon, as the Mountaineers dropped a 7-0 decision to its Southern Conference rival. With the loss, ASU falls to an even 7-7 on the season and 1-4 in league play, while the Cougars improve to a stout 11-7 and an undefeated 3-0 in conference action.

Out of all nine matches that went on during the day (doubles and single) Appalachian was unsuccessful in claiming a victory.

The team of Blakeley Bean and Ellie Linsell could not withstand Emma Hayman and Irene Viana at the one position, falling 8-5. At the number two slot Gisela Fernandez and Jessica Thaggard suffered an 8-3 defeat while Kim-Lea Dinh and Jennifer Ansari suffered a loss by the same score at the third pairing, which gave CofC the doubles point.

Things did not get much easier for the Mountaineers in singles play as Linsell lost in two sets, falling 6-2, 6-3 to Christin Newman at the one spot. Ansari could not come away with a win either, as she was defeated in two sets as well at the two position.

Despite solid efforts, both Thaggard and Bean lost in two sets at the three and four positions, while Amanda Cash was unsuccessful in her match as well at the five position.

Dinh showcased the Black and Gold's best performance at the No. 6 spot, as she went to three sets against Irene Viana but ended up losing 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 10-4.

Looking to rebound, Appalachian continues with its homestand, as the Apps welcome Furman to the High Country, Wednesday March 30. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. on the indoor courts at Grandfather Mountain Country Club.
