GREENSBORO,
N.C -Appalachian State
University women's tennis dropped its third straight Southern Conference match
Saturday afternoon to UNC Greensboro 7-0. With the loss, the Apps fall to 6-6
on the season and 0-3 in SoCon play, while UNCG improves 6-3 overall and 3-0 in
the league.
The
afternoon got off to a rocky start for the Mountaineers who lost all three
doubles matches.
The duo of Ellie
Linsell and Jessica Thaggard were defeated 8-2 at the number one position, Blakeley
Bean and Gisela Fernandez lost 8-1 at the number two position. Jennifer Ansari
and Kim-Lea Dinh were defeated at the number three position 8-5.
ASU
struggled in singles action as well, as the Spartans were able to win every
flight.
Linsell fell
at the number one spot 7-5, 6-0 while Ansari's opponent proved to be too much
at the number two spot, also losing in two straight sets.
Thaggard and
Bean dropped their matches at the three and four positions, while Amanda Cash
and Dinh were unsuccessful on the afternoon as well, losing 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) and 6-1,
6-2 to their competition.
Appalachian
takes a much needed rest before returning to action Friday, March 25, traveling
to SoCon rival Davidson for a 3 p.m. match.
